Samsung NX700 / OEMAX PLC — programming & fault fixing with WinGPC

Samsung PLC is what Vietnamese technicians usually call the PLC line built by OEMAX (South Korea) — very common in Korean-invested plants. The same hardware line has carried up to 4 names across owners: OEMAX → Samsung → Rockwell Samsung Automation (RSA) → RS Automation. The main series is NX7 / NX70 / NX700 (modular). When the PLC faults or its program needs editing, technicians get stuck — unsure of the brand and which software to use.

Key point: operators usually just call it a “Samsung PLC”. The same hardware may be labeled OEMAX, Samsung, RSA or RS Automation — and they all program with WinGPC / GPC Editor. Getting the name right is how you find the right docs, software and spare parts.

Identify it: one PLC line, four names

  1. OEMAX — the original South Korean maker (NX7 / NX70 / NX700 series).
  2. Samsung PLC — from the Samsung-group era; this is the label seen most on the floor.
  3. Rockwell Samsung Automation (RSA) — the Rockwell joint-venture period.
  4. RS Automation — the current name (an independent Korean company) still continuing the NX line.
  5. Hardware tells — modular NX700 racks, I/O modules, DeviceNet (NXIO-DNA), NX-MWLINK comm.

Connecting & programming with WinGPC

  1. Identify the model Note NX7/NX70/NX700 + the modules on the rack; this drives the right software and cable choice.
  2. Software: WinGPC / GPC Editor OEMAX/RS Automation's programming tool — rare and hard to find. You need the version that supports your NX series.
  3. Cable & port Connect via the CPU's programming port (serial/loader); use the correct cable and a stable USB-serial adapter.
  4. Back up the program FIRST Before changing anything, upload and save the program + parameters to a file — in case there is no original source.
  5. Communication If using DeviceNet (NXIO-DNA) or NX-MWLINK: check address, baud and terminator so I/O and remote stations come up.

Common faults

  1. CPU in Stop/Error — parameter fault, dead memory battery, or a faulty/loose rack module.
  2. Lost program / no source — the old OEM never handed it over; upload from the CPU while it is still readable.
  3. Can't connect with WinGPC — wrong software version, wrong cable/COM port, or USB-serial driver on modern Windows.
  4. I/O comm dropped — DeviceNet/NX-MWLINK down: duplicate address, wrong baud, missing terminator, noise.
  5. Failed I/O module — dead inputs/outputs; needs a (rare) spare or a salvaged module.
⚠️ The PLC sits in a live panel — follow electrical safety and lock-out/tag-out when needed. Always back up the program + parameters before any change; for orphaned gear, losing the source means losing it for good.
